How a Cook County appeal works
- Check whether your home is assessed higher per square foot than similar homes nearby — our free check does this in 30 seconds.
- Gather evidence: comparable homes with lower assessments, or recent sales of similar homes.
- File online with the Assessor while your township's window is open. It's free and no lawyer is required.
- If the result isn't enough, file again with the Board of Review when its window opens.
- Still not satisfied? You may appeal to the Illinois Property Tax Appeal Board (PTAB).
